30 November 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 30th November [1888]. I painted a little in the morning. Mr Ralph Curtis came to see my studio & gave me hints and advice. Nela went for a walk with Miss Holas. Ola stayed in bed. I went & sat with Ola & worked while she read aloud for an hour before luncheon. After luncheon Henry & I went out in gondola & deposited Nela to play tennis at the Carmine garden. We went on to pay visits. Only found Css Thun at home. Met there Mme Kellembach. Saw a Longhi full length portrait wh Css Thun says belongs to her nephew & which he wishes to sell. Came home to tea & brought Nela home. Css Wolkenstein came to tea. She is staying with her mother Pss Hatzfeldt & had brought us messages from the Empress Frederick. Her husband is German Ambr at Petersburg. She is [a] pretty woman very fashionably dressed. Olga Mocenigo came to tea & Mr Browning fils. Later Ersilia & Maria. There was no reference to the burning Warsberg question & all went off quietly. Mr Brown dined with us & Ola played the piano & Henry patience.
