3 December 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 3rd [December 1888]. Splendid weather, the girls out in sandalo before breakfast. Painted till 12. Made cigarettes while Ola read aloud. Lunch at 1 & directly after started out. Henry took the girls to the Lido; they dropped me at S. Moisé & I took a walk. Went to see for Carry Eden but she was not at home so I walked on towards the Canareggio to call on Mlle Mysenberg & met her just before I got there & so turned back with her & walked together. I took her onto the Rialto just to see it & then we went on to the Piazza & walked in Piazzetta. She went home by steamer & I went to see Mrs Bronson & she was out. I was turning away very tired to go & try my fortune at the Edens again when I met Mrs Bronson walking & turned back with her to her house & went in to rest & have tea. The Brownings & Edith came in to tea. Mrs Bronson sent me home in her gondola—& I rested on divan in studio & wrote letters till dinner. I found Henry & Ola had hatched a plan to invite Dora Du Cane, the girls’ cousin, to come out to stay with us & to travel under the care of Lady Galway—so they wrote off to her. Mr Malcolm dined with us. Reception in the evening & a great many people came.
