31 December 1888 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 31st December [1888]. Arranged & cleared rooms for the dance of tonight. Nela woke with a swelled eye & we sent for Cini who pronounced it a bite. Henry took out Ola & Dora—Nela stayed at home with me. I had a great clearance of letters &c in the studio & put things in order– After lunch I rested on the divan being very tired & we had tea in the studio. Mr Eden dined with us & abt 10 the dancing world began to come & we had a merry dance. Mr Malcolm & Mr DuGué kindly made the Punch for us & we drank each other’s health at midnight. I made Mr Marzials & Mr Brown each dance with me & Henry danced “Sir Roger” with the Dss della Grazia & it was 2 before we parted & went to bed–
