2 January 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 2nd January [1889]. I painted after breakfast & then began to model a small figure of Portia to see about the bust of Ola in that character which I intend doing. After lunch I went out in gondola to pay visits. Found Lady Galway at home & not very well– Went up to see her—also Miss Witherell & Miss Ames, all in the same hotel (de Rome). From there I went to the Piazza to meet the others. I had to land at the Hotel de Luna on account of the strong wind which was blowing. We had some difficulty in crossing the Grand Canal wishing to leave Nela at Mrs Browns on the Zattere where Ola was to meet her on foot. We had to leave Nela at S. Vio to walk the rest. Dora came back with us. Dined at 7.30 & I practised the harmonium after dinner.
