26 January 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 26th January [1889]. Ola sat to me in the morning. I had a last harmonium lesson & paid my master Vianello the sum of 12 fcs for the 6 lessons! Mr Brown came to lunch with us & then went home & fetched his mother. I got into his sandolo with her & we went to the Lido– The rest of our party followed in the gondola with the filse on account of Henry’s still having a cold. We landed at 4 Fontana & walked round to St. Elizabetta. On the sands we walked with Mrs Browning whom we met there. I came back in the gondola & Ola went in the Brown’s sandolo & stopped at Mrs Brownings to tea on the way home. Mr Famini, Baroness Mayneri & Mme Castanza came to tea—the latter paid such a long visit that it was nearly dinner time when she & her daughter left. Dined at 7.30– Patience.
