8 April 1889 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 8th April [1889]. At 9 o’cl the consultation took place. Dr Smith was more reassuring—talked of a cist—said I was to see Fuller next Saty & then have [another] consultation later. Mama came to see me & then I went to see Blanche & report of myself & on to shop—in Oxford St met Lady Sligo & Madeleine de Peyronnet & had a long chat with them—& went to a shop with them—then returned to meet Blanche in Cav. Sqr & walked with her. Got tickets for Mon: Pop. Concert for Henry & Ola & theatre tickets for Arthur & self. Home to lunch– After lunch drove with Henry to see Mrs Austen’s collection of watercolours wh are to be sold on 10th. Met a good many friends there. The drawings show to great advantage at Christie’s. Went on to Alma Tademas’ house in St John’s Wood to see his pictures for the Exns. Was quite astounded at the magnificence of his abode—a kind of mixture of Roman, Oriental & Dutch taste. They received everyone with great hospitality & kindness– There were many people there amongst them Lady Salisbury. Ola & my brother Arthur dined with us & Arthur & I went to see Sullivan’s Yeoman of the Guard—pretty music—stupid piece—pretty women—& fairly good voices.
