10 April 1889 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Wednesday. 10th [April 1889]. There was such a thick fog that there was nothing to be done– Even with candles one could hardly do anything. Fred came to lunch at 1 and went with Henry to Christie’s to see the sale of Mrs Austens water colours but on acct of the fog the sale had been put off. It poured with rain. I went to see Blanche after lunch & offered to take little Bertie out driving with me much to his delight so when the carriage returned from Christie’s he & I drove to Lady Eastlake’s. Bertie refused to get out of the carriage so I left him till later when he got bored & came out with alacrity & was introduced to a little girl gt niece of Lady E. & he sang “Ach du lieber Augustine” very prettily when bid. We went on to call on Lady Audrey Buller and found her at home & Bertie had a game with her little girl. We stopped to buy a bun on the way home & he had tea with me & Blanche & Maria came also. We were to have dined with Lord Justice & Lady Bowen but they put us off on acct of his health so we went to dine with Maria—a large party of young people.
