15 April 1889 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Monday. 15th April [1889]. Busy morning doing odd jobs & setting things in order before I take to my bed. Went out walking with Blanche in the morning to do a little shopping. On my return to lunch found Monty calling & explained the reason we cd not go to him at all. I drove out with Ola after lunch and bought a jacket to wear in bed. Mrs Rate came to see me & my nurse arrived & Dr Fuller called to make all arrangements. I had been very depressed but Mrs Rate fidgetted & tried to have my bedroom stripped of carpets & hangings & we had a tussel abt it & that shook me up & cheered me & I liked the look of the neat little woman in a grey dress, white cap & apron who was to have charge of me—Nurse Mellett of St Bartholomews Hospital. Henry dined with old Mr Thomson Hankey & I dined with B & Edward & Henry fetched me home. We slept in the spare room as my room was prepared for tomorrow.
