23 August 1889 — La Punta, Longarone | |
Friday. 23rd [August 1889]. The weather still bad but it cleared in the afternoon but still the work at the bridge could not go very fast & by night they had not quite joined the bridge onto the opposite shore altho’ all the uprights were on. I read aloud a good deal to Henry who on acct of his bad leg did not go out. At night the storm began to rise & we had a very bad night for the thunder was almost continuous & shook our windows & the torrent got loud & angry. | |
