7 October 1889 — Florence | |
Monday. 7th [October 1889]. While Henry took the 3 girls sight seeing I took a quiet walk with Annie. After lunch Henry & I drove up to the Villa del Pino to call on old Miss Macleod & found her wonderfully bright & well. She still dresses in the old fashion wearing a crinoline & has a peculiar cap of her own invention with a sort of flannel cape tied over it. She was very pleased to see us & was as bright & amusing as ever with a spice of maliciousness wh makes her very funny. I read Ruskin aloud after dinner. | |
