1 November 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 1st November [1889]. Up at 7 as usual, read before breakfast. Painted & wrote letters. Visit from Mr Brown to talk over Church & Institute matters. Wrote more letters in the afternoon & did not go out tho’ it ceased raining a little. Robt Browning & Miss Sarianna B came to see me having just arrived from Asolo where they have been staying to pay a visit to the Pen Brownings at Palo Rezzonico. Henry took the girls out to the Edens’ garden. Idita Bentivoglio came to see me & sat some time so I had little time for reading aloud to Henry & began “Un gentilhomme d’Autrefois.” Sang with Eda after dinner.
