20 November 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 20th [November 1889]. Modelled till 12. Copied. After lunch went out in gondola with Henry & the girls who left me at Mrs DuGué & I went to pay him a farewell visit & then went on to the Piazza to walk. There were 2 bands playing in honor of the Q. of Italy’s birthday. I went on to the Edens garden & took a little turn there—but there were but few flowers & it was cold. I returned to the Piazza to pick up our party & bring them home. Dined at 7 & we all went to see “Carmen” at the Rossini. Mlle Borghi was immensely applauded. She acts wonderfully or at least it seemed she was Carmen– Has a fine voice. The Royal march was played & the theatre chock full & extra lighted—all the authorities were there. I came home before the rest being tired. Mr & Mrs Haseltine came to tea & Miss Sullivan.
