Wednesday. 27th November [1889]. Late up—not till 11– Nela & Eda amused themselves cleaning up my jewels. Wrote letters. Went out in gondola with Henry after lunch. Paid a visit to Ersilia Canevaro who was at home with a cold– Went to the Eden’s garden & got a few of the very last chrysanthemums & roses for our dinner table. Read aloud to Henry & began Une grande dame du XVIII “siecle.” Had a dinner party. Adl & Mme Noce, Admiral & Countess Canevaro, Admiral Deinhardt, Count Gatardi, Mrs Eden, Browning, Princess of Montenegro & Pss Olga, Mr E. Moore & Nela making a party of 14. In the evening a few people to tea & party lasted till 12.
