4 December 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 4th December [1889]. Better news of Browning this morning. He seems to be out of danger. Finished my bust of Ola in costume of “Portia”—that is to say I gave some last touches & made up my mind to leave it for I shall never feel it is finished. Cortelazzo came up to the studio & wrote at his memoirs & I helped him to arrange his ideas. After lunch the girls went to the Lido with Harry Colnaghi except Ola who did not go out & kindly planted my bulbs from England. I went out with Henry in gondola & walked on the Piazza. Went to Podio & saw the drawings to be sent to Pss SaxeMeiningen. Wrote to her. Read aloud to Henry. He & I went to dine with the Edens & met Adl Deinhardt & Css Olga Mocenigo, Edith Bronson & Mr Curtis– After dinner 3 German officers, 3 of our girls & Mr & Mrs Barrett (he an artist) came in to tea.
