9 December 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 9th December [1889]. Painted– Miss Barclay came twice from the Pal. Rezzonico to borrow different things for Mr Browning who is worse his lungs being affected. Mr Jameson came to lunch—& then we all went to see the sailor’s Institute. Mr Brown fetched me in his sandolo. Afterwards he took me & Ola in sandolo as far as the Zattere where she & I walked. We met Mrs Brown & accompanied her as far as the Traghetto S. Gregorio & then returned to the Zattere & from there to the Rezzonico where I saw Miss Barclay & the news were no worse. Home—tea in studio & read aloud. We all dined with Mr Malcolm—a splendid dinner—chamois, pheasant, paté de foi gras—every luxury. Home at 10.30– Very fine & cold weather.
