10 December 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 10th December [1889]. Up at 7. Splendid sunrise but too red & tho’ it was bright & sunny at first the weather changed & snow threatened. Painted all the morning. Miss Barclay came at 12 & said Mr Browning was worse & had fainted & asked for some good brandy which I gave her. Eda & Nela took Henry out in the sandolo before lunch. Afterwards I went out in gondola & paid Mme Canevaro a visit. Met Edith Bronson there and she accompanied me as far as the Piazza where I left her & took in Henry, Ola & Katie Col: & came home. Tea in studio & read aloud to Henry. In the midst a visit from Css Olga Mocenigo to say the Adl Deinhardt would allow his ship’s band to come & play for us, so asked them for Thursday eveng. Henry took the girls to Borghi’s benefit in Carmen. I went early to bed.
