14 December 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 14th December [1889]. We are now called at 7.30 & I got up this morning as usual my cold being better. Wrote letters in the morning. Out in gondola after lunch with Henry. We met Mme Noce who begged me to let the Brownings know the Arsenal steam launch was at their disposal for the funeral– Miss B answered accepting it & saying the service would be tomorrow at 2.30 & that after the coffin would be deposited at San Michele. Henry & I went to the Giudecca to the Eden’s garden & found Mr E. there—took a little walk & came home early. Nela was in bed all day with a bad cold– Read aloud to Henry Leighton’s Address to the Students from the Times.
