26 December 1889 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 26th December [1889]. Called later & all except Henry breakfasted in bed. Nela came into my bed & breakfasted with me—& then we read & dosed until luncheon when we got up & all went to take a little airing in the Zattere where we met the Noce & doing ditto. Came home soon after 4. Mr Woods came to tea in studio. Read aloud. Henry & [I] dressed for opera– Dined at 7 & went to the opening night of the Fenice to see Lohengrin & found it very heavy & uninteresting but mise en scene is fine. Mlle Meyer a tall german—lady like & graceful has too little voice for the theatre– The tenor also has a small voice but was applauded. Mr Eden came to our box & borrowed Nela of us to accompany him. We got home abt 1.
