6 January 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 6th January [1890]. Eda better, but Annie looking ill. I took her temperature & finding she has fever sent her off to bed—& I spent sometime between the two patients. Practised guitar—wrote– Did not go out not feeling very well myself. Played guitar in Eda’s room. Tea in studio & read aloud. Dined at 7 & went to the theatre to Malcolm’s box under the impression Denorah was given– There was a little confusion on entering & we saw Mr Astolfi in the corridor—& someone said it was Lohengrin to our horror we discovered that Mr Astolfi & his family had the box & had turned out of it. Henry ran after them & sent Luigi but in vain they could not be found—we were in despair & horrified at what had happened– At 10 I took Nela to Css Papadopoli where there was a dance & we returned home at 12.
