21 January 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 21st [January 1890]. Henry better—and sat up for some time in the afternoon– Mrs Eden came to see him & Mrs Brown called being out for the first time since her attack of influenza– I went out in gondola with the girls & found the flags up most everywhere & the shutters of the shops up as a sign of mourning. I returned home & had our flag hoisted & then went to see Lady Galway who is better & then to Mrs Bronson & then hurried home to give Henry his tea & read to him—foggy.
