27 February 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 27th February [1890]. Henry woke feeling ill & passed a bad day tho’ he had little fever in the morning. After lunch Carry came to see me. I went out with her, we walked from the traghetto opposite to the Riva & went to the Montalbas & I gave them the key of Malchies box at the opera for tonight & I left Carry at her house & then went in gondola to the church & found all being cleared out to prepare for cleaning the interior. When I got home at 3.30 found Henry very agitated & his temperature up to 39º & I was very anxious & did not leave him except for a few moments when Olga Mocenigo came to see me– Cortelazzo left & returned home at midday. Towards night Henry got better & his temp: went down to 37.8—& so I went to bed more quiet. I read aloud to him some of Mr Galton’s travels in S. Africa– Took all my meals in his room.
