1 March 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Saturday. 1st March [1890]. Fever down again—but Cini would not let him get up—as it was bitterly cold & blowing hard. He also forbids our thinking of going away to the country for a long time—so I wrote to Css Pisani to tell her to send the girls back Monday or Tuesday. After lunch visit fm Mr Jameson & then I took a walk as far as the church to see the colour they were painting the inside & met Mr Jameson there. I went to Biondetti’s & Rietti’s about the church font & also to the Stabto & then hurried home. Found fever up again to 38—& cough very troublesome & he was much exhausted. He dozed & then I read aloud from 6 till bed time (10) only stopping for our dinner & we finished Galton’s travels in Damaraland.
