12 March 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 12th March [1890]. Worked at my fan sketch all the morng arrangg figures from Symonds translation of Gozzi where there are some very pretty illustrations. Lunch at 1 & the girls went to the Lido. I went out in gondola with Henry leaving cards &c. Mr Unwin an officer of the P&O Cathay came to tea. At 9.30 I took the girls to Mrs Bronson who had tableaux vivants—a great crush—for she asked everybody & the house is tiny. The tableaux all Japanese were very pretty. All girls acted, Edith Bronson, Olga Montenegro, Alda Stefani, Marie Lucchese Palli, & Amelie Mocenigo, Don Carlos & the Dss of Madrid, the Css de Bardi, the Dss de Baden were all there & Mrs Bronson was delighted but as the whole company took to smoking as soon as the tableaux were over I retired with the girls & did not wait for supper. We had our tea at home in the kitchen.
