18 March 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 18th [March 1890]. Pouring wet day & neither the Bishop nor Mrs Sandford went out. Wrote in the morning– After lunch Henry went over to see Mr Malcolm & then returned for me & he left me at Css Pisani’s while he went on to see Mrs Bronson. Ola had been to lunch with her & I brought her home when Henry fetched us. Tea in the long hall with Mr & Mrs Sandford & the girls arranged the rooms for the evening. Had a dinner & evening party in honor of the Bishop. To dinner, Css Pisani, Lady Galway, Mrs Eden, Mr Brown, Mr Woods, Mr Jameson– Ola Du Cane, Mr Methuen, Mr & Mrs Curtis and all the English came in the evening but some were prevented on account of a sudden high tide such as has not been known for years– Genl & Mrs French who came from the Hotel de Rome said they had been obliged to get out of the windows of the 1st floor into their gondola.
