20 March 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 20th March [1890]. When Dr Cini came after lunch he confirmed my fears. I have got another cist & he recommends my going to England as soon as possible & having it removed– So we decide on starting as soon as Alice Murray has gone for she is coming to us next Tuesday till Friday when she goes to join Hallam at Brindisi on their way to Australia for his health. I went out in gondola with Mrs Sandford & she left me at Css Pisani & I explained to her what had happened & how we could not pay her a visit in the country as arranged– When Mrs S. returned for me I took her to see Mrs Eden & to the Stabto to buy glass & we returned home. Dined at 7 & Henry took Ola, Lotta & Mrs Sandford to the opera to see Faust. Css Pisani dined & we had a very pleasant evening. Eda & I played guitar & mandoline & then we had some nice talk—between the Css & the Bishop—the great topic being Miss Lawley’s marriage to Mr Wiel & the Ch. of Rome forbidding any Protestant ceremonys of wh the Ch. disapproved.
