Sunday. 20th [April 1890]. Waking with a headache & so did not get up till lunch. Read some of Bacon’s essays. My brother Monty came to lunch with us with Nelly. Had visits from Charlie Eliot, Richard Du Cane & the girls, old Mr Sheppard Mama’s philanthropic friend. Little Bertie Ponsonby came to tea with me by special invitation. Henry went out in a round of visits & came in abt 6. Mrs Rate came to see me & sat a long time chatting. Maria came just before dinner. Mama & my brother Arthur dined with us & Ola was at home– | |
