Thursday. 1st May [1890]. Went out driving with Henry. Expected demonstration of workmen asking 8 hours labour bill—but all was quiet & as usual– It was partly put off till Sunday. Had a long visit after tea from Sir Henry Thompson who has just returned from the continent. I told him of my ailments & he says he does not think I can avoid an operation wh is my own feeling. | |
