3 May 1890 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Saturday. 3rd [May 1890]. Got up abt 11 & went to see Garrod but was kept waiting 2 hours before I could see him. He gave me strengthening medicines. After lunch I drove Henry to the R. Academy that he might see the pictures & fetched him again at 5. I then went to see Mrs Ball & persuaded her to take a drive with me while I left cards & she enjoyed it & stayed with me till 5 & then got into a hansom to go home. Henry came home dressed & abt 6 went to the R. A. Banquet. I & Ola dined at home & played guitar & mandoline duetts. Leighton said complimentary things in his speech to Henry about his being elected Foreign secy to the R.A. in the place of poor old Browning—an honorary post of distinction. Henry was amused at the speeches wh he said were short & good—especially Lord Salisburys wh was very amusing.
