1 June 1890 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Sunday. 1st June [1890]. Remained in bed all the morning. Lunch at 1 & then Henry & I drove down to Ham to see Lady Lindsay and got there abt 4.30. It was a thundery day & inclined to rain but happily it kept fine. We had tea in the verandah and then walked in the garden. At 5 Mrs Cyril Flower (née Rothschild) & Mr George Russell came down. The latter is a nephew to the D. of Bedford. He & I amused ourselves by picking guelder roses & branches of rhododendron to take back to adorn our rooms in town– Lady Lindsay’s daur Nelly was there & walked in the garden with us but she went away to eveng church & so was not of the party at dinner. Mr G. Russell amused in the evening with repeating us quantities of poetry he having a most prodigious memory. It suffices him to hear a poem read over twice to know it by heart. We started to drive home abt 10. Mrs Flower remained the night & we gave Mr Russell a lift as far as Hyde Park Corner. We drove in the open carriage thro’ Richmond Park. Lady L had sent word to the Park Keeper at Sheen Gate to wait for us. A fine mild night.
