7 July 1890 — Park Gate House, Ham, Surrey
Monday. 7th July [1890]. Had rather a headache. Got up late. Practised guitar. A wet day– After lunch it cleared a little & I took a turn in the garden with Henry. We expected Lady Sophie Palmer down by train directly after lunch but she did not arrive. Henry & I went just out of the garden on to the common when a barouche drove by in wh was Sophy so we screamed to her & the carriage stopped & she was glad to find she had at last reached her destination—for she said they had lost their way & had been going abt aimlessly in search of us. Her old coachman, as the way of their tribe is, not having asked his way. We brought her in, gave her tea & warmed her by a fire & then she & I took a walk round the garden between showers of drizzling rain. Henry & Ola drove over to Wimbledon to dine with the Murrays. Sophy & I dined at 7 & at 8.15 she set off to drive back to London. I made designs for Irish work & went to bed at 10. At 11 the others returned.
