11 July 1890 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Friday. 11th July [1890]. Breakfast in bed & up at 11. Henry went to lunch with Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild to meet the Empress Frederick. I went driving by myself shopping & called on Lady Lindsay to thank her for lending us her house. All the Du Cane girls came to tea in the kitchen with Annie Carter our cook who leaves tomorrow to be married to our great regret. She has been with us 7 years & besides being an excellent cook has been a faithful & attached servant & we can hardly hope to find such another. Edward Ponsonby called– Ola went to dine with her sisters– Eda & I dined alone. Henry dined with Lord Selborne. I played patience all evening.
