10 August 1890 — 1 Queen Anne Street
Sunday. 10th [August 1890]. Henry very feverish & complained of his chest very much. When Sir Henry Thompson & Mr Herring came they said it was intercostal neuralgia & he was to have hot fomentations wh relieved him a bit. Maria came in & spent the afternoon & helped me to wring out the flannels &c. Mme Hurtado came to call & Idita & her husband—& Rustem Pasha & Sir Collingwood Dickson the latter went up to see Henry but did not stay long as Henry was in such pain. Sir H. Thompson came abt 5.30 & after going up to see Henry he came down to me & said he was much alarmed. Henry was warm, his breathing bad & he thought he would call in a physician, was to foment his side & prepare a linseed poultice with a little mustard sprinkled. I asked him to come & dine & he accepted & Maria also dined but was made late by going up home to get the linseed. We sent off for Nurse Watson to come at once & she arrived abt 10.30. Sir Henry [&] I was sitting with Henry & had put on his poultice for him & after Mr Herring had come they left together & I went to bed leaving Nurse Watson in charge. I did not sleep very well & woke at every hour as I had done the last few nights. Sir Henry & Mr Herring will come at 10 tomorrow morng & bring Dr Quain to consult whether the lungs are affected & 2 quinine pills were given Henry.
