24 August 1890 — En route to Lucerne
Sunday. 24th August [1890]. At 5 AM I made hot some beef tea for Henry & at 6 I made myself some tea. At 8 we breakfasted in the Rest: Car & at 11 we arrived in a torrent of rain at Lucerne. Paolo met us with the announcement that we could not have rooms at the Grand Hotel & the only rooms he had been able to get were in the dependances of the H. Beau Rivage. The room were good but we had to go out of doors to get to the Hotel for meals wh was disagreeable as it was very bad weather. I went in afternoon to see Mr & Mrs Henfrey at the Hotel de l’Europe. He has been very ill & really looks so—is thin & changed. I went to the Hotel National to ask abt rooms—they still had none & asked me to go tomorrow at 10.30. Henry was not very tried after his journey but went early to bed. Wrote P. Cards to .
