29 August 1890 — Baveno | |
Friday. 29th August [1890]. There was a thunderstorm which lasted all day from day break to bed time & torrents of rain. We had a telegram from Mr Malcolm to say the Empress was to arrive at Venice on 5th. I wrote at once to the servants to come out to Venice & wrote letters. Read aloud to Henry our French novel Fontenoy Coup d’Epée. No going out. Lunch at 1.30. Dined at 7.30. Bed early after patience. | |
