3 September 1890 — Baveno
Wednesday. 3rd [September 1890]. Most splendid weather. I read in the morning to Henry & finished our novel. Lunched at 1.30 & went to have our coffee in the garden, while sitting there a steamer came in & we saw Sir Dominic Colnaghi appear. He & his wife & Fanny had just come from staying at Hospenthal. Henry went in at 4, & I took a walk with Sir D in the village, bought books & made 2 flies & at 5.30 he & I & Fanny went out on the lake to try & fish. Got nothing & came in at 7. Dined at 7.30 at the same time as the Colnaghis but at a separate table & then they came & spent the evening in our room & Sir D. & I played patience. Packed & early to bed.
