28 September 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 28th September [1890]. I was dressed at 8 and practised the harmonium before breakfast. Went to church with Henry & the girls at 10.30. The service & music went very well and the Empress & 2 Princesses were at church. Coming out met Mr F. Leveson Gower. Also Lady de Gex & the Meadows Whites. It was so hot after the exertions of the morning that as soon as I came home (12) I took a bath & laid on the sofa till lunch. Ola, Daisy & I went to 3.30 service & I played again. Went on to Css Pisani’s to tea when the Empress & 2 Princesses came. Also met Mr & Mrs Curtis, Mr & Mrs Story & Ct Agostini. Css P. gave us a splendid tea & ices for the Princesses. We remained there till nearly dark. Our girls went off with H.M. & Psses for a row before dinner. Henry & I came home. Morelli left by 4 o’cl train for Milan. Cortelazzo left at 12 & returned home to Vicenza. Henry & I dined with H.M. & also Ct & Css Brandolin & Css Pisani & Malcolm. We had expected M. Bonghi but he never came—he was to have dined also with H.M. After dinner we all went out in gondola. Mme Noce & Mr Moore came & we called for Mr Browning & took our guitars & mandolines & played & sang. It was a splendid night. We went up the canal & floated up on the giudecca. I & Pss Vic & Browning & Mr Moore & Nela were in one boat & I played guitar, Mr Browning the mandoline. We were quite sorry to come in & got to bed abt 11.30. Css Pisani went home & so did Henry.
