9 October 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 9th October [1890]. I wrote letters in the studio all the morning & Mama sat with me– It blew hard all last night & today the weather is changed. The heat is gone & a nice autumn air set in & brilliant sunshine. Mr Spence of Florence, Henry’s old school fellow turned up in the morng & lunched with us. After lunch I took Mama in gondola to the Lido, landed at S. Elisabetta & we walked across to the sands. We met Mrs Dyer & Stella walking there. Lord & Lady Alwyne Compton, Mr F. Leveson Gower, Mr & Mrs Dyer & Stella dined with us. Stella, Agostini & Trombini came & they tried over Rubinstein’s trio—Stella played beautifully. Mrs Eden & Beta Hammersley came also.
