15 October 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 15th October [1890]. Mr Dyer came to see my studio & helped me to build up a “still life” for Nela & me to paint a study. This took us nearly all the morning. Miss Holas came to read French to Mama for the first time from 12 to 1. Mr Brown who returned yesterday to Venice came to luncheon. Henry went off to see the book collector who wrote to say he knew of some curious playing cards which Mama wants for her collection. When he returned Mama & I went out in gondola. Went to Cooks office to order the places in the wagon lit for Richard & Virgie next Sunday. Went to Rietti’s & bought a bit of old silver & dark blue glass. Went on to Sta Venezia & Murano to order a glass tazza for our “still life.” Weather cloudy & a change impending. Home by 5. Maria Cozzi came to tea in the studio. Mrs Stanley Clarke & her girl, & Admiral & Mme Noce & Mr Moore, Mr Ralph Curtis & Mr Woods dined with us. It rained a little in the evening.
