30 October 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 30th October [1890]. Up at 7. Wrote, read & practised guitar before breakfast. Painted all the morning with Nela—Mama sat with us– She was very low. I tried to persuade her to be happier. Miss St Clair called directly after lunch & also Mr & Mrs Browning with their friends Mr & Mrs Douglas Murray. It was past 3 when they left so we had not long to be out. Henry & I took out Mama to the Piazza & took a little walk but were driven home by the rain. Had tea at 5. Abt 6 a visit from the Pss of Montenegro & her daughter. I had to write some letters so I could not read aloud to Henry. Mr Malcolm dined with us. Ola & I played mandola & guitar duets in eveng.
