5 November 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 5th November [1890]. A note came before breakfast asking us to lunch with the Brownings. I painted with Nela in the morng & then Henry & I, Ruth & Sir Dominic went to lunch at the Pal. Rezzonico. Ruth went home– Henry went to fetch the Mother & then called for me & we went for a row. Called on Mrs Bronson who was at home & sat some time with her. Mr Browning had lent Thomas Coryats Crudities & I read aloud from it in the gondola. We called at the Arsenal to enquire after Mme Noce & then came home to tea. Ct Gabardi was there with Sir Dominic & stayed some time. I practised guitar—no reading aloud as we had finished Roederer’s book of the societé polie de France last night. Ola & I played mandoline & guitar duets after dinner.
