6 November 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Thursday. 6th [November 1890]. Nela & I painted. Sir Dominic left by the early train. Mr Dyer came & inspected our paintings. Miss St Clair came to call just before luncheon. Mr Brown, Mrs Brown & Mr Symonds lunched with us & afterwards inspected Mama’s pack of Mantegna cards. It was a damp day & Mama did not go out & I sat with her in the drawing room. Henry went out with the girls– Lady Butler called being here on her way to Egypt for the winter where her husband has a command. I showed her over my studio &c– Just as she left came Mr Passini the artist & I took him also upstairs to see Henry’s study. He has promised to do a water colour portrait of Henry & he desires to paint him in his own study. Passini remained on to tea & saw Henry when he came in. I read aloud to Henry before dinner. Guitar with Ola in evening.
