9 November 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 9th November [1890]. Mama’s cold increased & she did not go out. I went to church with the girls. When I came home tidy’d up my room—arranged plants & Ruth & I fitted up a screen for the back of the sofa in my bed room. After luncheon had a visit from Mr Malcolm. Henry went out & took Nela who had gone to luncheon with the Brownings. Ola, Ruth & I walked to afternoon service– Henry fetched me in the gondola– I left them at home & set off for the Eden’s house. Met them coming to us with our portion of milk. (We now get milk from their cows at the garden.) I got into their gondola & sent the milk in mine, & went to their house to tea with them & stayed some time. Mr Dyer called on them also. I came home & read to Henry for an hour till dinner. Afterwards played the harmonium. Nela went early to bed with neuralgia in head.
