18 November 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 18th November [1890]. Henry woke hoarse & with a cold so I got him to have his breakfast in bed– Ruth & Ola went out rowing before breakfast. Painted myself & then superintend Nela’s painting. Did accounts– Henry did not go out at all. I took Mama to the Edens garden. The weather in morng was lovely but clouded over in afternoon. Mrs Eden gave me 2 large handfuls of chrysanthemums to bring home. As we came back to our own door Marchesa Pandolfi & her 2 daughters came up & came in with us to tea– Mrs Moscheles also came & took leave as they go this week to Cairo. Put up the flowers & then read to Henry. I had read Coryat in the gondola to Mama & I read it again to her & Henry in the eveng; we dined at 7 & the 3 girls went with Arthur to the opera Carmen–
