10 December 1890 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 10th December [1890]. Tired & had breakfast in bed—got up by about 11. Passini came. Still lovely weather. Wrote letters. Rina told me that she wished to leave my service on account of her health which will not stand this damp climate. I am very sorry as I have got very fond of the girl & she is very nice-minded– Mrs Eden came to see us after luncheon. Henry walked with Nela & I was to meet them at the Piazzetta. Carry Eden & I went out in gondola together, left some cards & parted at Css Canevaro’s door & I went in there to pay a visit. Found her better in spirits but still looking ill. Sent the gondola for Henry & he called for me & we went home soon after 4. I read Mme de Sabrans letters to him till 5 when Miss Holas came to help him with his Italian translation. I went to tea & read aloud to the girls the Parnell row & final split of the party. Finished my letters. Dined at 8– Went early to bed.
