12 January 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 12th January [1891]. We were just finishing our lunch when Pss Olga Montenegro & Css Gisella Kellembach were announced & came to ask the girls to form part of a masquerade of 24 hours to take place as a surprise at Pss Hatzfeldt’s on Saturday evening wh we agreed to. Henry, I & Nela went for a walk & then to see Mr Eden—who expects Carry back from London tonight. Mr Malcolm dined with us, & we had the Trios in the evening played by Tirindelli, Trombini & Dini the 1st violincello of the Opera Orchestra– The Montenegros, Curtis, Montalbas &c came. But rather a small party. In afternoon Mrs Browning came to tea & stayed a long time talking about society, or the want of it here at Venice.
