14 January 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Wednesday. 14th January [1891]. To my great sorrow my Vaudoise maid Cesarina Rostain left me today. She went off to Turin by 9 o’cl train & bid me good bye before I got up– She was good & attentive & nice to look at & I shall miss her—however her health broke down so there was no help for it. Passini came to work. I & Nela painted. Mrs Eden called just after lunch & she took Ola to walk to the Piazza to meet Henry & me. Nela had a swelled face & could not go out. I went to Jesurum & ordered the making up of the Empress Frederick’s lace table cloths & rejoined Henry & Ola on the Piazza. Mr Moore came to tea & told us much about the procession in wh he also takes part. I read aloud to Henry before dinner. We dined upstairs & sat downstairs after dinner & Ola & I played guitar & mandola duetts.
