26 January 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Monday. 26th January [1891]. Fine day. Cold and frosty. I sat to Nela for her crayon sketch of me till 12. Worked at wax medal of Henry in his room while he read till lunch. Went out with Henry & walked on the Zattere– Left some cards but the tide was so low I could not get near to the doors of the houses– Home to tea. Mme Colmayer the Prefets wife. Marquise Pandolfi & her girl, Miss Hammond & Miss Freiling all came to tea– Read aloud to Henry. Dined at 7.15. Henry & Nela went to Malcolm’s box at the Rossini to see the “Adoratori del Fuoco” an opera by a Venetian Zabris– Poor stuff imitating Wagner—but much applauded by the author’s co-citizens. I stayed at home & practised the guitar.
