6 February 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 6th February [1891]. Woke with a splitting headache– Nela took care of me– My maid Rosa being ill & under Cini he came to see her & also came to me—& advised me to try the new medicine antifebrine—& after taking 2 powders I got a little better & made a great effort to get up & go down to dinner on acct of Mrs Elliot—but she did not come & the note to excuse herself never reached me– Mr Woods also dined with us—& was very amusing. I was glad to get to bed again as soon as they left. Mr Elliot told us a good deal of gossip abt old diplomatic friends–
