11 February 1891 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Wednesday. 11th [February 1891]. Ash Wednesday. Wrote letters in bed till 11. Passini came again. I & Henry went out after luncheon in gondola. Went to Beraghi’s new House in Canareggio. Very nice & sunny. Called on Bss Wellinghoff at Pal. Manfrin & found her at home– Went to Piazza for a moment & met Mr Malcolm. Home at 5. Mr Browning came to tea & to talk over church affairs with Henry. The organ has come from England & is now being erected in our church. Read aloud to Henry. Malcolm dined with us & we had trios in eveng. Trombini was not very well & almost fainted at the piano—but soon recovered & few people perceived it. We broke up at 12. Dss della Grazia & Marie, Pss of Montenegro—Montalbas, Passini, Woods, Jameson came. | |
