25 February 1891 — Villa Pisani, Vescovana
Wednesday. 25th February [1891]. He had a pretty good night. At 2 he took broth—at 6—a cup of tea & was far better than I could have expected. He had his newspapers in bed & got up abt 11. We lunched at 12 & he was able to come to table. At 2 I went out driving with Mammie V. D. Antonio took out Nela & Mlle Giacomelli for a drive and Ola who was not quite well remained with Henry. We drove to the Palazzo Rosso to see after a sick ox & on the way back stopped to speak to several farmers. I could but admire the Countess’ cleverness in dealing with things & men. We came in for tea– Ola & I practised over guitar & mandola duetts before dinner at 7. To bed at 10.30.
